In this regard, the Secretary-General is also of the view that the strategic planning capacity in the economic and social field needs to be strengthened in order to assist the entities of the Executive Committee on Economic and Social Affairs to build stronger collaboration and partnerships, including closer and more effective horizontal linkages to enhance support to Member States in pursuing the development agenda.

(c) In order to ensure effective coordination and policy guidance to the operational activities of the Department, emphasis was placed on integrated implementation of the outcomes of the United Nations global conferences, better integration of analytical and operational activities and improved collaboration among entities of the Executive Committee on Economic and Social Affairs and the United Nations Development Group.

The 24 projects were selected, on the basis of the criteria set out in General Assembly resolution 53/220 A (see A/60/6 (Sect. 34), para. 34.8), from a broader pool of 60 projects originating in the 10 entities of the Executive Committee on Economic and Social Affairs.
