In this respect, Tunisia is pleased with the expansion of the mandate of the Commission for Social Development, which has been given the chief responsibility for the follow-up and review of the application of the results of the World Summit for Social Development.

In the case of functional commissions with the primary responsibility for the follow-up and review of the implementation of a major conference, the Council was requested to ensure the coordination of their multi-year programmes, in accordance with the agreed conclusions adopted by the Council at its substantive session of 1995 on the coordinated follow-up of the results of major international conferences.

It may be recalled that, in the sixteenth paragraph of its agreed conclusions 1995/1 adopted at its coordination segment of 1995, the Economic and Social Council noted the current practice of assigning one functional commission with the primary responsibility for the follow-up and review of the implementation of each conference.
١٣٩ - من الجدير بالذكر أن المجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي، في الفقرة السادسة عشرة من الاستنتاجات المتفق عليها ١٩٩٥/١ التي اعتمدها في الجزء المتعلق بالتنسيق من دورة عام ١٩٩٥، لاحظ الممارسة الحالية المتمثلة في تكليف لجنة فنية واحدة بالمسؤولية الرئيسية عن متابعة واستعراض تنفيذ نتائج كل مؤتمر.

255. In the case of the functional commissions with primary responsibility for the follow-up and review of the implementation of a major conference, the Council shall ensure the harmonization and coordination of their agendas and work programmes by promoting a clearer division of labour among them and providing clear policy guidance to them.
٢٥٥ - في حالة اللجان الفنية التي تتحمل مسؤولية أولية عن متابعة واستعراض تنفيذ نتائج أحد المؤتمرات الرئيسية، ينبغي للمجلس أن يكفل التساوق والتنسيق بين جداول عملها وبرامج عملها، بالسعي إلى تقسيم العمل بينها بصورة أوضح وتزويدها بتوجيهات واضحة بشأن السياسات العامة.

35. In its resolution 1996/7 of 22 July 1996, the Economic and Social Council decided that the Commission for Social Development, as a functional commission of the Council, should have the primary responsibility for the follow-up and review of the implementation of the Summit, and decided to enlarge the Commission’s membership from 32 to 46 and to annualize its meetings.
٣٥ - قرر المجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي، في قراره ١٩٩٦/٧، المؤرخ ٢٢ تموز/يوليه ١٩٩٦، أن تضطلع لجنة التنمية الاجتماعية، بصفتها لجنة فنية تابعة للمجلس، بالمسؤولية الرئيسية عن متابعة واستعراض تنفيذ نتائج مؤتمر القمة، وقرر زيادة عدد أعضاء اللجنة من ٣٢ إلى ٤٦، وأن تصبح اجتماعاتها سنوية.

In stressing that the voluntary submission of national information represents a valuable contribution for the follow-up and review of the implementation of the recommendations of relevant conferences, the Council also requested the Secretary-General to prepare a standardized and simplified format, which could be used by Governments in preparing information on a single subject or on clusters of subjects. 13/
وفي معرض التشديد على أن اﻹرسال الطوعي للمعلومات الوطنية يمثل اسهاما قيما في متابعة واستعراض تنفيذ توصيات المؤتمرات ذات الصلة، طلب المجلس أيضا الى اﻷمين العام إعداد قالب موحد ومبسط تستطيع الحكومات استخدامه في إعداد المعلومات عن موضوع واحد أو مجموعة من المواضيع)١٣(.
