The first section provides an update on OHCHR activities during 2006 in relation to human rights and disabilities.

OFFICE OF THE HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS 5. Over 2006, OHCHR has continued to increase its work on human rights and disabilities.
5- واصلت المفوضية، في عام 2006، تعزيز الأنشطة التي تضطلع بها في مجال حقوق الإنسان والإعاقة.

The Office, together with States, United Nations partners, national human rights institutions and civil society organizations, has continued increasing its capacity and activities on human rights and disabilities, and it is intended to maintain and strengthen this trend over the coming years.

In this regard, the High Commissioner underscores the importance of the issue of human rights and disabilities to the Human Rights Council and recommends that the Council devotes dedicated and focused attention to the issue in its future programme of work.
وتسترعي المفوضة السامية الانتباه في هذا الصدد إلى أهمية مسألة حقوق الإنسان والإعاقة بالنسبة إلى مجلس حقوق الإنسان وتوصي بأن يكرس المجلس اهتماماً خاصاً ومركَّزاًُ لهذه المسألة في برنامج عمله المقبل.

15. OHCHR has undertaken several activities to promote closer partnerships with United Nations agencies and departments as well as civil society on human rights and disabilities.
15- اضطلعت المفوضية بأنشطة متعددة للتشجيع على إقامة شراكات أوثق مع وكالات الأمم المتحدة وإداراتها، وكذلك مع المجتمع المدني، بشأن حقوق الإنسان والإعاقة.

20. The current reporting year has seen a continuation of the strengthening of OHCHR's work on human rights and disabilities.

4. The present report provides an overview of the activities of OHCHR on human rights and disabilities over 2007 as an indication of the continuing steps taken by the Office to meet the recommendations of the study.

In addition, a seminar on human rights and disabilities was held from 3 to 5 December 2001 for staff of the Peruvian Ombudsman's office, in cooperation with the Latin American Institute for Crime Prevention and the Treatment of Offenders and the Defensoría of Costa Rica.
