4. With the adoption of Security Council resolution 1143 (1997) on 4 December 1997, the Committee started working on refining and clarifying its working procedures with a view to accelerating the approval process of applications to send humanitarian supplies to Iraq.
٤ - ومع اعتماد قرار مجلس اﻷمن ١١٤٣ )١٩٩٧( في ٤ كانون اﻷول/ديسمبر ١٩٩٧، شرعت اللجنة في العمل في تحسين وتوضيح اجراءات عملها بغية التعجيل بعملية الموافقة على طلبات إرسال اﻹمدادات اﻹنسانية الى العراق.

ثالثا - تصدير اﻹمدادات اﻹنسانية إلى العراق

At the same time, the Committee has made repeated efforts to expedite the processing of humanitarian supplies to Iraq and consignments of supplies approved during the initial 180-day period operation continue to arrive in Iraq steadily.
وقد بذلت اللجنة جهودا متكررة لﻹسراع بتجهيز اﻹمدادات اﻹنسانية إلى العراق ومن ثم يتوالى وصول شحنات اﻹمدادات التى جرت الموافقة عليها لفترة اﻟ ١٨٠ يوما اﻷولى إلى العراق على نحو مطرد.

With a view to facilitating the delivery of humanitarian supplies to Iraq, the Committee also agreed to extend the validity period of its approval letters to ship humanitarian supplies to Iraq from the initial 120 days to 180 days, with a possible further extension of another 90 days upon request.
وبغية تيسير إيصال اﻹمدادات اﻹنسانية إلى العراق، وافقت اللجنة أيضا على مد فترة صلاحية الخطابات التي تصدرها بالموافقة على شحن اﻹمدادات اﻹنسانية إلى العراق من ١٢٠ يوما وهي المدة المقررة في بادئ اﻷمر، إلى ١٨٠ يوما مع إمكانية تمديدها ٩٠ يوما أخرى عند الطلب.

11. As at 10 November 1999, the Secretariat had received 1,232 applications under phase V for exports of humanitarian supplies to Iraq.
١١ - وفي ١٠ تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر ١٩٩٩، كانت اﻷمانة العامة قد استلمت ٢٣٢ ١ طلبا في إطار المرحلة الخامسة من أجل تصدير اﻹمدادات اﻹنسانية إلى العراق.

11. As of 23 February 1999, the Secretariat has received 274 applications under phase V for exports of humanitarian supplies to Iraq.
