6. Hopes for conflict resolution were seriously set back when the fourth round of mediated peace talks, under the auspices of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Drought and Development (IGADD)) between the Government of the Sudan and the rebel factions ended in deadlock in September 1994.
٦ - وتعرضت اﻵمال التي علقت على حسم النزاع لنكسة خطيرة حينما وصلت الجولة الرابعة من محادثات السلام برعاية الهيئة الحكومية للتنمية ومكافحة الجفاف )إيغاد( إلى طريق مسدود في أيلول/سبتمبر ١٩٩٤.

٧ - وأوجد تكوين هيئة " أصدقاء إيغاد " ، بعد إعادة تشكيل الهيئة بقيادة ممثلي إيطاليا والمملكة المتحدة لبريطانيا العظمى وايرلندا الشمالية والنرويج والولايات المتحدة اﻷمريكية وهولندا قدرا جديدا من الزخم واﻷمل في إعادة أطراف النزاع إلى مائدة المفاوضات.

It will be recalled from the previous report that IGADD had by March 1994 assumed a separate, though complementary, role in the regional peace process by facilitating negotiations conducted by the United Nations with the parties to the conflict on modalities for relief convoys to cross lines of defence or conflict.
٩ - ومما يذكر من التقرير السابق أن إيغاد شرعت، منذ أذار/مارس ١٩٩٤، في القيام بدور منفصل، ولو أنه تكميلي، في عملية السلام اﻹقليمي وذلك بتيسير المفاوضات التي تجريها اﻷمم المتحدة مع أطراف النزاع بشأن اﻷصول اﻹجرائية لعبور قوافل اﻹغاثة لخطوط الدفاع أو النزاع.
