Welcomes the proposal by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to establish a Council of Elders within its Mechanism for the Prevention, Management, Resolution of Conflicts, Peacekeeping and Security for the purpose of facilitating mediation efforts and urges the Secretary-General, in consultation with the Executive Secretary of ECOWAS, to assist in facilitating its establishment and to help to ensure its effectiveness;
٧ - يرحب بمقترح الجماعة الاقتصادية لدول غرب أفريقيا بإنشاء مجلس حكماء في آليتها لمنع المنازعات وإدارتها وتسويتها وحفظ السلام واﻷمن بهدف تيسير جهود الوساطة، ويحث اﻷمين العام، على أن يساعد، بالتشاور مع اﻷمين التنفيذي للجماعة الاقتصادية لدول غرب أفريقيا، في تيسير إنشائه والمساعدة في كفالة فعاليته؛

7. 3. The General Assembly requested the Secretary-General, in consultation with the Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community, to continue to intensify contacts aimed at promoting and harmonizing cooperation between the United Nations and the Community; and also requested the Secretary-General to report to the General Assembly at its fiftieth session on the implementation of the same resolution.

2. Invites the Chairman of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee for the Elaboration of an International Convention to Combat Desertification in those Countries Experiencing Serious Drought and/or Desertification, particularly in Africa, in consultation with the Executive Secretary of the interim secretariat, to report to the General Assembly at its fiftieth session on the financial situation of the two extrabudgetary funds;
٢ - تدعو رئيس لجنة التفاوض الحكومية الدولية لوضع اتفاقية دولية لمكافحة التصحر في البلدان التي تعاني من الجفاف الشديد و/أو من التصحر، وبخاصة في أفريقيا الى أن يقوم، بالتشاور مع اﻷمين التنفيذي لﻷمانة المؤقتة، بتقديم تقرير الى الجمعية العامة في دورتها الخمسين عن الحالة المالية للمصدرين الماليين الخارجين عن الميزانية؛
