43. In response to a request received from the Government of Comoros, UNCTAD prepared, in partnership with Government officials, a national trade and development strategy launched at a national stakeholder seminar held in Moroni in March 2013.

Furthermore, with regard to the present regime, it was the intervention of the national development army on 30 April 1999, when disturbances over Anjouan broke out in Moroni, that prevented civil war in Comoros, where the political power of the time was paralysed and the Comorian people rejoiced at that intervention.

In that regard, it should be noted that, two days from today, the authorities of the Government of the Union of the Comoros and the authorities of the autonomous islands will -- with the assistance of South Africa, the countries of the region and the international community -- sign a political agreement in Moroni that will end the six-year secessionist movement and establish all the institutions stipulated by the new Constitution.

UNCTAD organized a workshop on competition law enforcement against State-owned enterprises in India, jointly with the Competition Commission of India (21 - 22 May 2012) as well as a workshop in Moroni (17 - 18 October 2012) to raise awareness about the adoption of a competition law by the Comoros Government.
