On 1 October, the Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Marie Guehénno, briefed the Council on the attacks carried out by heavily armed elements against peacekeepers of the African Union Mission in the Sudan at their base in Haskanita in Southern Darfur on 29 and 30 September.
