69. Mr. Kaid (Yemen) said that international strategies for natural disaster reduction should be translated into practical action by developing national capacities with a view to protecting local communities and alleviating daily suffering.

47. Mr. Kaid (Yemen) said that his delegation supported the statement made by the representative of the United Republic of Tanzania on behalf of the Group of 77 and China. The commitments made at the World Summit for Social Development must be fulfilled.
٧٤ - السيد قايد )اليمن(: قال، بعد أن أعرب عن تأييده لما جاء في البيان الذي أدلى به ممثل تنزانيا باسم مجموعة اﻟ ٧٧ والصين، إنه يجب الوفاء بالالتزامات التي تم التعهد بها في مؤتمر القمة العالمي للتنمية الاجتماعية.

Mr. Kaid (Yemen) (interpretation from Arabic): My delegation wishes to refer to the Secretary-General's report (A/50/301) on the provision of assistance to Yemen under item 20 (b) of the agenda.

38. Ms. Kaid (Yemen) said that the Yemeni Constitution did not prevent women from participating in political life and that the Electoral Law guaranteed the equality of men's and women's rights to political participation.
38 - السيدة قايد (اليمن): قالت إن الدستور اليمني لا يمنع المرأة من المشاركة في الحياة السياسية وإن قانون الانتخابات يكفل للرجل والمرأة حقوقاً متساوية في المشاركة السياسية.

50. Ms. Kaid (Yemen) said that the electoral law would need to be amended in order to introduce the concept of quotas for greater participation by women in political life.

14. Ms. Kaid (Yemen) said that the Personal Status Law stipulated that a girl could enter into marriage if she was ready, but not before she reached 15 years of age.

18. Mr. Kaid (Yemen), after endorsing the statement made by the representative of the Philippines on behalf of the Group of 77, said that the developed countries should increase aid to the developing countries with a view to alleviating the threat posed by hunger and poverty. It was also essential to revive the North-South dialogue and renew the call for the convening of an international conference on the financing of development.
١٨ - السيد قايد )اليمن(: أثنى على ما جاء في بيان ممثل الفلبين باسم مجموعة اﻟ ٧٧، ثم قال إنه يتحتم على الدول المتقدمة أن تزيد من مساعداتها للدول النامية للحد من الخطر المتمثل في الجوع والفقر، كما أن من الضروري إحياء حوار الشمال والجنوب وتحديد الدعوة لعقد مؤتمر دولي من أجل تمويل التنمية.

31. Mr. Kaid (Yemen) said that he supported the statement made by Costa Rica on behalf of the Group of 77 and China, and recalled that development, which had become the primary focus of international concern, had been discussed at a number of major United Nations conferences in recent years.
٣١ - السيد قايد )اليمن(: أيد بيان كوستاريكا بالنيابة عن مجموعة اﻟ ٧٧ والصين وذكﱠر بأن التنمية، وهي الموضوع الرئيسي الذي يستقطب الاهتمام في العالم حاليا، كانت في السنوات اﻷخيرة محور العديد من المؤتمرات الرئيسية لﻷمم المتحدة، التي لن تكون فعالة إلا إذا أعقبتها إجراءات ملموسة.

11. Mr. Kaid (Yemen) joined the delegations of Egypt, Palestine and Tunisia in thanking the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia for the report contained in document A/51/135, although the report had not given sufficient coverage to the Syrian Golan.
١١ - السيد قايد )اليمن(: قال إنه يضم صوته الى أصوات وفود تونس وفلسطين ومصر في توجيه الشكر الى اللجنة الاقتصادية والاجتماعية لغربي آسيا على التقرير الوارد في الوثيقة A/51/135 وإن كان التقرير في الواقع لم يتناول بما فيه الكفاية الجولان السوري.

26. Ms. Kaid (Yemen) said that the nation's NGOs had existed only since the early 1990s; thus, they tended to be weak, particularly in rural areas, to lack structure and capacities and to have poorly defined goals.
26 - السيدة قايد (اليمن): قالت إن وجود المنظمات غير الحكومية في الدولة يمتد لبداية التسعينات فقط؛ لذا فهي تنزع لأن تكون ضعيفة، وبصفة خاصة في المناطق الريفية، كما أنها تفتقر إلى البنية والقدرات، وتمتلك أهدافا ضعيفة التحديد.

55. Mr. Kaid (Yemen) said that the efforts of the developing countries aimed at economic restructuring and trade liberalization had done nothing to alleviate their heavy debt burdens, nor had the annual discussions and resolutions on the subject adopted by the General Assembly produced any practical effect.
٥٥ - السيد قايد )اليمن(: قال إن جهود البلدان النامية الرامية إلى إعادة تشكيل الهياكل الاقتصادية وتحرير التجارة لم تفعل شيئا للتخفيف من أعباء الديون الثقيلة الملقاة على عاتقها، ولم تسفر المناقشات السنوية والقرارات التي اتخذتها الجمعية العامة في هذا الشأن عن أي أثر عملي.

35. Mr. Kaid (Yemen) said that the issue of the sovereignty of the Palestinian people had been considered time and again since Israel had begun building settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem, and in the other occupied Arab territories.
٣٥ - السيد عبد العزيز أحمد قايد )اليمن(: قال إن مسألة سيادة الشعب الفلسطيني جرى النظر فيها بشكل متكرر منذ بدء إنشاء المستعمرات اﻹسرائيلية في اﻷرض الفلسطينية المحتلة، بما فيها القدس، وفي اﻷراضي العربية اﻷخرى المحتلة.

4. Mr. Kaid (Yemen) introduced draft resolution A/C.2/52/L.6 on behalf of the sponsors, who had been joined by Algeria; he said that the word “people” in the second preambular paragraph should be changed to “peoples”.
٤ - السيد قايد )اليمن(: قدم مشروع القرار A/C.2/52/L.6 بالنيابة عن المشاركين معه في تقديمه الذين انضمت إليهم الجزائر؛ وأشار إلى أنه يجب استبدال كلمة " peoples " )شعوب( الواردة في الفقرة الثانية من النص اﻹنكليزي بكلمة " people " )شعب(.

2. Ms. Kaid (Yemen), introducing the fourth and fifth periodic reports of Yemen (CEDAW/C/YEM/4 and 5), said that Yemen had made great strides over the past 30 years, particularly since unification in 1990: a democratic, multiparty political system had been established and, with the granting of the right to freedom of expression, many civil society organizations had emerged, including groups devoted to promoting women's issues.
2 - السيدة قايد (اليمن): قالت عند تقديمها للتقريرين الدوريين الرابع والخامس لليمن (CEDAW/C/YEM/4 و 5) إن اليمن أحرزت تقدما كبيرا على مدى الثلاثين عاما الماضية ولا سيما بعد توحيدها في عام 1990 حيث تم إنشاء نظام ديمقراطي سياسي تعددي وبعد منح الحق في حرية التعبير ظهرت إلى الوجود العديد من منظمات المجتمع المدني بما فيها جماعات مكرسة لتعزيز قضايا المرأة.
