In Kuwait, through the participation of the Kuwaiti Fund, we have participated in ministerial meetings of the Southern African Development Community since the beginning of the 1980s. We have therefore been able to witness the evolution of NEPAD from its birth as an idea to the present, which could be said to constitute a policy of African renaissance.

From the time of its independence, Kuwait had adopted a generous policy of assistance to developing countries, including the establishment, in 1961, of the Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development, which had contributed more than $12 billion to fund infrastructure projects in over 100 countries.

Kuwait continues to support development projects in many developing countries through regional and international institutions and organizations, as well as through the Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development, which we had the honour of establishing over four decades ago and through which we have provided more than $11 billion to over 100 countries.

This it has done through the Kuwaiti Fund for Economic Development, which has provided in excess of $14.5 billion in assistance since 1961.
استمرت دولة الكويت في نهجها الثابت في مجال تقديم المساعدات التنموية ودعم مشاريع البنى التحتية لأكثر من (100) دولة نامية والدول الأقل نمواً، وذلك عن طريق الصندوق الكويتي للتنمية الاقتصادية الذي قدم منذ إنشائه عام 1961 حتى تاريخه مساعدات تتجاوز (14.5) مليار دولار أمريكي.

In that connection, we wish to refer to Kuwait's contributions to the building of infrastructure in Afghanistan. The Kuwaiti Fund for Economic Development has granted a $30 million loan for that purpose, in fulfilment of the pledge it made at the Tokyo donor conference.
