According to the Report on the Execution of the Budget of the State Social Insurance Fund of the Republic of Lithuania for 2000, expenses on social insurance for sickness and maternity (paternity) benefits amounted to LTL 458,253 or 10 per cent of all expenses (see the breakdown below).

It praised Lithuania for all the initiatives taken in favour of promoting and protecting children's rights but noted that corporal punishment was a tolerated practice, in particular within the family but also in schools and child-care institutions.
