5. On 17 May 2005, the Israeli Government had announced its intention to build the " Maale Adumim loop " extending the wall around Maale Adumim, the largest illegal settlement east of Jerusalem.

It is imperative to note here that " Maale Adumim " is an Israeli settlement that has been established in the Occupied Palestinian Territory by Israel in wilful and grave breach of international law, i.e., constituting a war crime.

In this connection, on Monday, 21 March 2005, the Israeli Government confirmed its approval of plans to build 3,500 more housing units in the " Maale Adumim " settlement, the largest illegal Israeli settlement located east of Jerusalem in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
وفي هذا الصدد، أكدت الحكومة الإسرائيلية يوم الاثنين 21 آذار/مارس 2005 موافقتها على خطط بناء 500 3 وحدة سكنية أخرى في مستوطنة " معاليه أدوميم " ، وهي أكبر مستوطنة إسرائيلية غير قانونية قائمة في القدس الشرقية بالأراضي الفلسطينية المحتلة.

This was followed by provocative announcements by Israeli officials, including the Prime Minister, who declared, " We will not let anyone block the continuum between Jerusalem and `Maale Adumim'" .
وأعقب ذلك إعلانات استفزازية من قبل المسؤولين الإسرائيليين، بمن فيهم رئيس الوزراء، الذي أعلن ما يلي: " لن نمكِّن أي شخص من منع الارتباط بين القدس و ' معاليه أدوميم` " .

These provocative plans are aimed at connecting the illegal settlement of " Maale Adumim " with the other illegal settlements of Israel in and around Occupied East Jerusalem and would effectively sever and isolate the City from the cities of Ramallah and Bethlehem, further undermining the contiguity of the State of Palestine.

In this regard, it must be noted that " Maale Adumim " has been illegally constructed on 48,000 dunums of confiscated Palestinian land and the " E1 " area covers another 12,000 dunums of Palestinian land, and the plans could potentially increase the illegal settler population by 20,000.
