Some movements of refugees back to border areas from camps have also taken place, including some who are believed to have prematurely returned to Liberia, partly because of poor living conditions in camps.

3. Political unrest and social tensions nevertheless continued to prevail in some regions of Africa, producing movements of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs), mainly in West Africa (Côte d'Ivoire, Togo), the Great Lakes region (Democratic Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic) and the Sudan.
