With Viet Nam's efforts, the principle of seeking, on the basis of international law, including the Convention, a long-term fundamental solution to disputes in the South China Sea has been incorporated into the Agreement on Basic Principles Guiding the Settlement of Maritime Issues between Viet Nam and China, signed on 11 October 2011.

With regard to paragraph 55 of the report of the Secretary-General entitled “Law of the Sea”, (A/49/631), our delegation would like to recall the well-known fact that there exist disputes between Viet Nam and China over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands and among six parties over the Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands in the Eastern Sea.
وفيما يتصل بالفقرة ٥٥ من تقرير اﻷمين العام المعنون " قانون البحار " (A/49/631)، يود وفدي اﻹشارة الى الواقع المعروف، وهو وجود نزاع بين فييت نام والصين حول جزر هوانغ سا )باراسيل(، ونزاعات بين ستة أطراف حول جزر ترونغ سا )سبراتلي( في البحر الشرقي.

The position of Viet Nam is that the dispute between Viet Nam and China over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands should be settled by peaceful negotiations between the two countries and that the disputes over the Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands should be settled by peaceful negotiations among the concerned parties.
وموقف فييت نام هو أن النزاع بين فييت نام والصين حول جزر هوانغ سا )باراسيل( ينبغي تسويته عن طريق المفاوضات السلمية بين البلدين، وان النزاعات حول جزر ترونغ سا )سبراتلي( ينبغي تسويتها عن طريق المفاوضات السلمية بين اﻷطراف المعنية.
