Comprehensive drug control assistance programmes such as the business plans for Bolivia, Colombia and Peru, the programme framework for States members of ECO, the programme framework for the east-Asian States and the new priority programme matrix for Africa were designed to address the drug problem in the regions concerned.

15. ESCAP recently launched the State of the Environment in Asia and the Pacific, 2000, which covers a number of ECO member countries.
15- وأصدرت اللجنة الاقتصادية والاجتماعية لآسيا والمحيط الهادئ مؤخراً التقرير المتعلق بحالة البيئة في آسيا والمحيط الهادئ، لعام 2000، الذي يتناول عدداً من البلدان الأعضاء في منظمة التعاون الاقتصادي.

11. Another development that took place in this regard was the holding of an extraordinary summit meeting of the Heads of State and Government of the States members of ECO at Ashgabat on 13 and 14 May 1997.

3. UNDP, through the Department for Development Support and Management Services of the United Nations Secretariat, is currently preparing a study on the economies of ECO member States.
٣ - ويقوم برنامج اﻷمم المتحدة اﻹنمائي في الوقت الراهن، من خلال إدارة دعم التنمية والخدمات اﻹدارية التابعة لﻷمانة العامة، بإعداد دراسة عن اقتصاديات الدول اﻷعضاء في منظمة التعاون الاقتصادي.

The 2003 Survey also focused on the efforts of the public sector in education and health as well as on the environmental degradation in the developing member countries of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), including the countries members of ECO.

16. The parties agree to establish the Permanent Conference of ECO on transport and communications.

7. The Secretary-General of ECO visited the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome in September 1998 and met with the Director-General of FAO to explore ways and means of bringing about a fruitful collaboration between the two organizations.
٧ - قام اﻷمين العام لمنظمة التعاون الاقتصادي بزيارة إلى مقر منظمة اﻷغذية والزراعة في روما في أيلول/سبتمبر ١٩٩٨، وعقد اجتماعا مع المدير العام للمنظمة لبحث طرق وأساليب إقامة تعاون مثمر بين المنظمتين.

To this end, the Secretary-General of ECO participated in the fifty-eighth session of ESCAP held in Bangkok in May 2002.

The major objective of ECO is to promote the expansion of trade and other socio-economic ties among member States.

The Treaty establishing ECO provided that the ECO Secretariat, with a view to advancing the objectives of ECO, may initiate cooperation with third countries and regional and international organizations.
٢٥- تنص المعاهدة المنشئة لمنظمة التعاون الاقتصادي على أنه يجوز ﻷمانة المنظمة المبادرة بالتعاون مع بلدان ثالثة ومنظمات اقليمية ودولية، بغية التقدم نحو أهداف منظمة التعاون الاقتصادي.

3. In 1997, the Executive Heads of ECO and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) exchanged official visits and both organizations agreed to undertake a joint project on support to ECO member countries in trade efficiency and economic cooperation, to be funded by UNDP.
٣ - في عام ١٩٩٧، تبادل الرئيسان التنفيذيان لمنظمة التعاون الاقتصادي وبرنامج اﻷمم المتحدة اﻹنمائي الزيارات الرسمية واتفقت المنظمتان على القيام بمشروع مشترك حول تقديم الدعم للبلدان اﻷعضاء في منظمة التعاون الاقتصادي في مجال كفاءة التجارة والتعاون الاقتصادي، يقوم برنامج اﻷمم المتحدة اﻹنمائي بتمويله.
