One of the main concerns of the Unit has been that legislative organs of its participating organizations in most instances only take note of its reports and recommendations.

14. In its previous annual reports, the Unit provided the General Assembly and the legislative organs of its participating organizations with a detailed account of its efforts made to comply with the provisions of General Assembly resolutions 48/221 and 50/233.

26.4 In line with the directives of the legislative organs of its participating organizations, the Unit takes full advantage of its system-wide competence, which puts it in the unique position of acting as a catalyst for the comparison and dissemination of best managerial, administrative and programming practices in the system as a whole.

٥٠ - وقد التزمت الوحدة بتزويد الجمعية العامة وجميع اﻷجهزة التشريعية للمنظمات المشاركة فيها بتحليل أكثر وضوحا وشمولا فضلا عن كونه تحليلا متسقا ومستكملا لمتابعة تنفيذ توصيات الوحدة المعتمدة.

5. The Unit should submit its reports to the executive heads of its participating organizations sufficiently in advance of the meetings of legislative organs to be thoroughly and effectively utilized at the meetings.
٥ - وينبغي للوحدة أن تقدم تقاريرها إلى الرؤساء التنفيذيين للمنظمات المشاركة فيها قبل وقت كاف من اجتماعات اﻷجهزة التشريعية للاستفادة منها بصورة تامة وفعالة خلال الاجتماعات.

In its resolution 40/243, section I, paragraph 4 (g), the General Assembly reaffirmed that the Commission should hold its regular annual session at United Nations Headquarters, and, if more than one session is required in any one year, may accept an invitation from one of its participating organizations to hold its other session or sessions at the headquarters of that particular organization.
أكدت الجمعية العامة من جديد في الفقرة 4 (ز)، من الجزء أولا من قرارها 40/243، أن تعقد اللجنة دورتها السنوية العادية في مقر الأمم المتحدة، وإذا لزم عقد أكثر من دورة واحدة في أية سنة واحدة، يجوز لها أن تقبل دعوة من إحدى المنظمات المشتركة فيها لعقد دورتها أو دوراتها الأخرى في مقر تلك المنظمة.

In view of the above and the importance of follow-up on JIU reports and compliance with their recommendations, the Joint Inspection Unit is submitting, in annex I to the present report, an official proposal entitled " Towards a more effective system of follow-up on reports of the Joint Inspection Unit " for consideration and action by the legislative organs of its participating organizations.
٤٦ - وفي ضوء ما سبق وبالنظر الى أهمية متابعة تقارير وحدة التفتيش المشتركة والامتثال لتوصياتها، تقدم الوحدة في المرفق اﻷول لهذا التقرير اقتراحا رسميا بعنوان " نحو نظام أكثر فاعلية لمتابعة تقارير وحدة التفتيش المشتركة " ، لكي تنظر فيه اﻷجهزة التشريعية لمنظماتها المشاركة وتتخذ إجراء بشأنه.

In this regard, the Unit would like to remind the General Assembly once again that it submitted, in its 1997 annual report3 an official proposal entitled “Towards a more effective system of follow-up on reports of the Joint Inspection Unit” for consideration and action by the legislative organs of its participating organizations.
وفي هذا الصدد، تود الوحدة أن تذكر الجمعية العامة مرة أخرى بأنها قدمت، ضمن تقريرها السنوي لعام ١٩٩٧، مقترحا رسميا بعنوان " نحو نظام أكثر فعالية لمتابعة تقارير وحدة التفتيش المشتركة " كيما تنظر فيه الهيئات التشريعية لمنظماتها المشاركة وتتخذ إجراء بشأنه.

30.25 In line with the directives of the legislative organs of its participating organizations, the Unit takes full advantage of its system-wide competence in undertaking comparative analysis of trends and problems faced by various organizations and proposing harmonized, practical and concrete solutions.
30-25 وتماشيا مع توجيهات الأجهزة التشريعية للمنظمات المشاركة في الوحدة، تعمل الوحدة على الإفادة من اختصاصها الشامل لنطاق المنظومة في إجراء التحليلات المقارنة للاتجاهات والمشاكل التي تواجهها مختلف المنظمات واقتراح حلول متسقة وعملية وملموسة لها.

11. UN-Oceans will regularly prepare a work programme allowing it to effectively coordinate the response of its participating organizations to the mandates approved by their governing bodies.
