The Commission, noting that mercenary activities had increased and taken new forms, decided to convene a workshop on traditional and new forms of mercenary activities as a means of violating human rights and impeding the exercise of the right of peoples to self-determination, to be held prior to the fifty-fifth session of the General Assembly.

Welcomes the efforts being made by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in the preparation of the second meeting of experts on traditional and new forms of mercenary activities as a means of violating human rights and impeding the exercise of the right of peoples to selfdetermination, as requested by the General Assembly in resolution 56/232;

The High Commissioner for Human Rights has the honour to transmit to the members of the Commission on Human Rights the report of the second meeting of experts on traditional and new forms of mercenary activities as a means of violating human rights and impeding the exercise of the right of peoples to self-determination, which took place in Geneva from 13 to 17 May 2002.

3. In accordance with these resolutions, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) extended an invitation to 10 experts from different geographical regions to attend an expert meeting from 13 to 17 May 2002 on the traditional and new forms of mercenary activities as a means of violating human rights and impeding the exercise of the right of peoples to self-determination.
3- ووفقاً لهذين القرارين، وجهت مفوضية حقوق الإنسان الدعوة إلى 10 خبراء من مختلف المناطق الجغرافية لحضور اجتماع للخبراء في الفترة من 13 إلى 17 أيار/مايو 2002 يتناول الأشكال التقليدية والجديدة لأنشطة المرتزقة كوسيلة لانتهاك حقوق الإنسان وإعاقة ممارسة حق الشعوب في تقرير المصير.

16. Requests the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to convene a third meeting of experts on traditional and new forms of mercenary activities as a means of violating human rights and impeding the exercise of the right of peoples to selfdetermination, whose main objectives will be:
16- تطلب إلى مفوضية الأمم المتحدة السامية لحقوق الإنسان أن تعقد اجتماع الخبراء الثالث بشأن الأشكال التقليدية والجديدة لأنشطة المرتزقة كوسيلة لانتهاك حقوق الإنسان وإعاقة ممارسة حق الشعوب في تقرير المصير، وهو اجتماع ستكون أهدافه الرئيسية:

The Commission requested the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to convene a third meeting of experts on traditional and new forms of mercenary activities as a means of violating human rights and impeding the exercise of the right of peoples to selfdetermination.
6- وطلبت اللجنة إلى مفوضية الأمم المتحدة السامية لحقوق الإنسان أن تعقد اجتماعاً ثالثاً للخبراء بشأن الأشكال التقليدية والجديدة لأنشطة المرتزقة كوسيلة لانتهاك حقوق الإنسان وإعاقة ممارسة حق الشعوب في تقرير المصير.

10. Welcomes the organization, in compliance with General Assembly resolution 56/232 of 24 December 2001, of the second meeting of experts on traditional and new forms of mercenary activities as a means of violating human rights and impeding the exercise of the right of peoples to self-determination, and takes note of its conclusions;
10- ترحب بالقيام، امتثالا لقرار الجمعية العامة 56/232 المؤرخ 24 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2001، بعقد اجتماع الخبراء الثاني بشأن مسألة الأشكال التقليدية والجديدة لأنشطة المرتزقة كوسيلة لانتهاك حقوق الإنسان وإعاقة ممارسة حق الشعوب في تقرير المصير، وتحيط علما بنتائجه؛

11. Takes note of the convening by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights of the second meeting of experts on traditional and new forms of mercenary activities as a means of violating human rights and impeding the exercise of the right of peoples to selfdetermination, in compliance with General Assembly resolution 56/232 of 24 December 2001;
11- تحيط علماً بقيام مفوضية الأمم المتحدة السامية لحقوق الإنسان بعقد اجتماع الخبراء الثاني بشأن الأشكال التقليدية والجديدة لأنشطة المرتزقة كوسيلة لانتهاك حقوق الإنسان وإعاقة ممارسة حق الشعوب في تقرير المصير، امتثالاً لقرار الجمعية العامة 56/232 المؤرخ 24 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2001؛

Pursuant to the request contained in General Assembly resolution 62/145, the Working Group has held regional consultations on traditional and new forms of mercenary activities as a means of violating human rights and impeding the exercise of the right of peoples to self-determination, in particular regarding the effects of the activities of private military and security companies on the enjoyment of human rights.
