The Law on the Protection of Personal Data extended the role of the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance to the protection of personal data.

Article 16 of the Constitution provides every citizen with the right to demand and receive information on any matter of Public Importance.

152. The Commissioner for Information of Public Interest and Protection of Personal Data was established on the grounds of the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance as an autonomous and independent State body.

119- وتتاح المعلومات لكل صاحب مصلحة مشروعة وفقاً لأحكام القانون المتعلق بحرية الوصول إلى المعلومات ذات الأهمية العامة()، الذي ينظِّم الحق في الوصول إلى المعلومات ذات الأهمية العامة التي تحتفظ بها هيئات حكومية، لأغراض تلبية وحماية المصلحة العامة في المعرفة وبلوغ نظام ديمقراطي حر ومجتمع مفتوح (المادة 1).

The Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance does not establish any special obligation for the authorities to secure for persons with disabilities direct communication in the sign language or in the form of Braille alphabet, but it is prescribed that the persons unable to review the document containing the required information without an attendant shall do it with the assistance of an attendant (art. 16, para. 8).
