In fact, what those resolutions did was assert the indisputable doctrine that the principle of self-determination was not applicable to the people of a territory which formed a constituent part of a Member State to enable them to secede from that State. Gibraltar, however, had not been a part of Spain for 295 years and was thus not seeking to secede from Spain.
