The Victims and Witnesses Unit located within the Registry can provide protective measures and security arrangements, counselling and other appropriate assistance for witnesses, victims and others at risk on account of testimony given by witnesses.

The Victims and Witnesses Unit shall service the Court and the Defence in all matters related to the protection afforded to all witnesses, victims who appear before the Court, and others who are at risk on account of testimony given by such witnesses, in accordance with their particular needs and circumstances.

284. The objective of the subprogramme of the Section is, firstly, in accordance with article 43, paragraph 6, of the Rome Statute, to provide protective measures and security arrangements, counselling and other appropriate assistance for witnesses and victims who appear before the Court and to others who are at risk as a result of testimony given by such witnesses.
