It would be recalled that his delegation and others had put forward detailed proposals over the previous decade for improving the work of the Committee and its subcommittees.

As to the organization of work, my delegation feels that we could further improve our work if we showed greater flexibility in drawing up the agenda of the Committee and its subcommittees.

The Subcommittee also encouraged United Nations entities to consider reporting on their work relevant to specific agenda items of the Committee and its subcommittees.

32. Concerning the future work of the Committee and its subcommittees, he welcomed the restructuring of their agendas and the new approaches to the consideration of agenda items.

Some of those delegations expressed the view that the current duration of the sessions of the Committee and its subcommittees was acceptable and should be retained, but that every effort should be made on an ad hoc basis, and in a spirit of flexibility, as was currently the case, to conclude their sessions as early as possible.

Other delegations expressed the view that opening several agenda items simultaneously was confusing and inconvenient since that practice did not make allowance for their experts to plan their attendance to the meeting of the Committee and its subcommittees properly.
وأعربت وفود أخرى عن رأيها القائل بأن طرح عدد من بنود جدول اﻷعمال للمناقشة في وقت واحد هو أمر مربك وغير مريح، حيث أن هذا اﻷسلوب لا يتيح الفرصة للخبراء ﻷن يخططوا بشكل مناسب لحضور اجتماعات اللجنة ولجنتيها الفرعيتين.

200. Some delegations expressed the view that the reports of the Committee and its subcommittees should be reduced in length to avoid duplication, and that the Committee could adopt the reports of its subsidiary bodies merely on the basis of a brief oral presentation of the reports.

The Committee expressed its appreciation to the Office for Outer Space Affairs for the informational material provided on national space legislation and international treaties, as well as for the informative website concerning the work of the Committee and its subcommittees.

He also welcomed the new level of coordination between the chairmen of the Committee and its subcommittees and the outstanding work of the Office for Outer Space Affairs in accomplishing the tasks entrusted to it despite its limited resources.

The Subcommittee noted with satisfaction that, in response to a request by the Committee, the Inter-Agency Meeting had considered the enhancement of the participation of United Nations entities in the work of the Committee and its subcommittees.

The Subcommittee also noted that United Nations entities would consider enhancing their participation in the work of the Committee and its subcommittees by preparing written reports on matters related to specific agenda items, when requested, and by submitting information and reports on their activities related to the work of the Committee and its subcommittees.
وأشارت أيضا إلى أن هيئات الأمم المتحدة سوف تنظر في موضوع تعزيز مشاركتها في أعمال اللجنة ولجنتيها الفرعيتين بإعداد تقارير مكتوبة عن مسائل ذات صلة ببنود محدّدة من جداول الأعمال، عندما يطلب إليها ذلك، وبتقديم معلومات وتقارير عن أنشطتها ذات الصلة بأعمال اللجنة ولجنتيها الفرعيتين.

Those delegations noted that the paper reviewed good practices used by other, comparable United Nations entities with respect to the structure of reports of intergovernmental bodies, and that the substance of the paper should be used as a basis for discussions on the streamlining and organization of work of the Committee and its subcommittees.
ولاحظت هذه الوفود أنَّ الورقة تستعرض ما تتبعه الهيئات الأخرى المثيلة في الأمم المتحدة من ممارسات جيدة في تنظيم تقارير الهيئات الحكومية الدولية، وأنه ينبغي استخدام مضمون هذه الورقة أساساً للمناقشات بشأن تبسيط وتنظيم أعمال اللجنة ولجنتيها الفرعيتين.

Some delegations expressed the view that measures aimed at making the sessions of the Committee and its subcommittees more efficient should not affect the flexibility already conferred on the secretariat through the possibility of reopening agenda items for consideration if necessary.
341- ورأى بعض الوفود أنَّ التدابير الرامية إلى جعل دورات اللجنة ولجنتيها الفرعيتين أكثر فعالية، لا ينبغي أن تؤثِّر على المرونة الممنوحة فعلا للأمانة من حيث إمكانية إعادة طرح بنود جدول الأعمال للنظر فيها، إذا لزم الأمر.

The delegation expressing that view was also of the view that the agenda item duplicated certain other agenda items of the Committee and its subcommittees and the discussion under the agenda item should be carried out on the basis of existing consensus.
وأعرب ذلك الوفد كذلك عن رأي آخر مفاده أنَّ هذا البند من جدول الأعمال يكرر بعض البنود الأخرى من جدول أعمال اللجنة ولجنتيها الفرعيتين وأنه ينبغي إجراء النقاشات في إطار هذا البند من جدول الأعمال استناداً إلى توافق الآراء القائم.

The view was expressed that member States should pay attention to the timely submission of documents to the Secretariat, in order to ensure their translation into the six official languages of the United Nations in time for the sessions of the Committee and its subcommittees.
349- ورئي أنه ينبغي للدول الأعضاء أن تهتم بتقديم الوثائق في الوقت المناسب إلى الأمانة، لضمان الانتهاء من ترجمتها إلى لغات الأمم المتحدة الرسمية الست قبل مواعيد انعقاد دورات اللجنة ولجنتيها الفرعيتين.

The Committee noted that organizational matters and the method of work of the Committee and its subcommittees had been addressed under other agenda items and would therefore be reflected in other parts of the present report.
389- لاحظت اللجنة أنه سبق تناول المسائل التنظيمية وطريقة عمل اللجنة ولجنتيها الفرعيتين في إطار بنود أخرى من جدول الأعمال، ولذلك سوف يرد بيانها في أجزاء أخرى من هذا التقرير.

E. Bureaux of the Committee and its subcommittees

These increased resources are necessary, inter alia, to support the work of the Committee and its subcommittees and to ensure that the subcommittees are duly balanced, representative and effective.
