A. Grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949, namely, any of the following acts against persons or property protected under the provisions of the relevant Geneva Convention:

Welcoming the universal ratification of the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949,

(iii) any mission of enquiry established pursuant to the provisions of the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949 and, where applicable, their Additional Protocols.

As the guardian of the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and their Additional Protocols of 1977, ICRC has an important mandate to fulfil with regard to promoting the ratification of these and other humanitarian law instruments, as well as ensuring that the rules of that law are made widely known and are effectively implemented.

11. In her statement, the High Commissioner stressed that 1999 marked the tenth anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, as well as the fiftieth anniversary of the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949 on the protection of victims of war.

16. The Commission concluded that the level of victimization in the conflict has been particularly high and found evidence of and information concerning grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions of August 1949 and other provisions of international humanitarian law.
٦١ - وقد انتهت اللجنة إلى أن مستوى اضطهاد الضحايا في هذا الصراع مرتفع إلى درجة بالغة، ووجدت أدلة ومعلومات عن انتهاكات خطيرة لاتفاقيات جنيف المؤرخة ٨ آب/أغسطس ٩٤٩١ وغيرها من أحكام القانون الدولي الانساني.

1. Appreciates the virtually universal acceptance of the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and the increasingly wide acceptance of the two additional Protocols of 1977;
١ - تقدر ما حظيت به اتفاقيات جنيف المعقودة في عام ١٩٤٩ من قبول يكاد يكون عالميا، وما يحظى به البروتوكولان اﻹضافيان لعام ١٩٧٧ من قبول متزايد الاتساع؛

13. Calls upon the Government of Myanmar to respect fully the obligations of the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949, in particular the obligations in article 3 common to the Conventions, and to make use of such services as may be offered by impartial humanitarian bodies;

Fiftieth anniversary of the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949 on the protection of victims of war

In some circumstances, conditions were met for the application of common article 3 of the Geneva Conventions of 1949.
