Furthermore, paragraph 1 of rule 7 of the rules of procedure for the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention provides the following:

In accordance with rule 22 of the rules of procedure for the Conference of the Parties, at the opening of each session, a President, eight Vice-Presidents and a Rapporteur shall be elected from among the representatives of the States parties that are present at the session.

Paragraph 2 of the rules of procedure for the Conference of the Parties provides that, at each ordinary meeting, the Conference of the Parties shall decide on the date and duration of the next ordinary meeting.

43 - قد يرغب مؤتمر الأطراف في أن ينظر في موعد ومكان انعقاد اجتماعه الثالث، مع مراعاة المادتين 3 و4 من النظام الداخلي لمؤتمر الأطراف.

Rule 14 of the rules of procedure for the Conference of the Parties provides that, subject to prior written notification to the Secretary-General, any State or regional economic integration organization signatory to the Convention in accordance with its article 36, paragraphs 1 and 2, shall be entitled to participate as an observer in the Conference.

Paragraphs 2 and 3 of rule 22 of the rules of procedure for the Conference of the Parties, adopted by the Conference at its first meeting in its decision SC1/1, state as follows on the issue of the election of officers of the Conference:
