85. Omani women are ahead of the men in this area, with the first women's society having been established in 1972. There are currently 51 Omani Women's societies.

B. Omani Women's associations

20. Further to the procedures noted above, representatives of Government authorities, civil society and the Omani Women's Association Muscat were included in the restructured committee. Moreover, it includes a member of the National Human Rights Commission.

56. The Omani Women's Symposium, held in 2009, which addressed topics concerning women and their advancement and empowerment, adopted some recommendations of relevance in this regard, as detailed below.

46. It would be remiss not to mention the outstanding coverage by Omani radio and television, the national news agency and local newspapers of the Omani Women's Symposium, held in October 2009. The experience of Omani women in all areas was considered at the symposium, where women discussed women's issues at daily sessions held before an audience.
46- ولا يفوتنا ذكر التغطية المتميزة التي تناولتها إذاعة وتلفزيون السلطنة ووكالة الأنباء العمانية والصحف المحلية لندوة المرأة العمانية التي عقدت في تشرين الأول/أكتوبر 2009، والتي استعرض فيها واقع المرأة العمانية في كافة المجالات، حيث خصص لها حلقات يومية لتتحدث النساء عن قضاياهن أمام المشاهدين وقد كان لهذه التغطية الإعلامية صدى كبير لدى أفراد المجتمع.

95. Table 3 (see annex for tables) shows that, in 2004, there were 45 children's crèches in Omani Women's associations in the whole of the Sultanate, comprising 4,574 children, including 2,314 males (50.6 per cent) and 2,260 females (49.4 per cent).

92. The Ministry of Social Development is greatly interested in and encouraging of Omani women, fostering in them the spirit of voluntary social work by publicizing Omani Women's associations in all provinces of the Sultanate. There are now 45 such associations, whose main objectives and tasks are, inter alia, to:
