41. It follows that the lawmaker has imposed a duty of national military service on every male citizen who has attained 18 years of age and is in good health, a provision that is in keeping with the preliminary draft optional protocol on involvement of children in armed conflicts.

1. The drafting of an optional protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on involvement of children in armed conflicts is an important and timely step.

9. In 1994, the Commission on Human Rights established an open-ended working group on a draft optional protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on involvement of children in armed conflicts (resolution 1994/91).
٩- وفي عام ٤٩٩١ أنشأت لجنة حقوق اﻹنسان فريقاً عاملاً مفتوح العضوية معنياً بوضع مشروع بروتوكول اختياري لاتفاقية حقوق الطفل بشأن اشتراك اﻷطفال في المنازعات المسلحة )القرار ٤٩٩١/١٩(.

4. By a letter dated 28 April 1994, addressed to the Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights, the Chairperson of the Committee on the Rights of the Child transmitted the comments which the Committee had made on the preliminary draft optional protocol on involvement of children in armed conflicts for consideration by the working group established by the Commission on Human Rights for this purpose.
