8. The Special Rapporteur visited Geneva for his first round of consultations from 2 to 8 April 2000 in order to present his report to the Commission at its fiftysixth session, and returned to Geneva from 17 to 21 April after attending a workshop on judicial integrity in Vienna.

18. The Chairman announced that the Syrian Arab Republic had requested, on behalf of the Group of Arab States, that Mr. John Dugard, Special Rapporteur of the Commission on Human Rights on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, should be invited to present his report to the Third Committee.

26. Ms. Al-Haj-Ali (Syrian Arab Republic) expressed her delegation's thanks on behalf of the Group of Arab States to all those delegations that had voted in favour of the proposal to invite the Special Rapporteur of the Commission of Human Rights on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories to present his report to the Third Committee.

56. In paragraph 8 of the same decision, the COP requested the Managing Director of the GM, in view of the accountability of the GM to the COP, to present his report to the COP at each COP session for scrutiny by the Parties and to make himself available to address the concerns of Parties.
