The research dialogue was initiated by the SBSTA in order to let Parties know about developments in research activities by regional and international research programmes and organizations.

38. The SBSTA encouraged Parties, in particular developing country Parties, and invited regional and international research programmes and organizations active in climate change research to utilize the research dialogue as a forum for:

It organized the sixth meeting of the research dialogue, held during SBSTA 40, with the participation of representatives of regional and international research programmes and organizations, the IPCC and Parties.

37. In this context, the secretariat will organize a research dialogue during SBSTA 38, with the participation of Parties and representatives of relevant regional and international research programmes and organizations active in climate change research, taking into account the views and information referred to in paragraphs 35 and 36 above.

It also took note of the information submitted by Parties and by regional and international research programmes and organizations active in climate change research (hereinafter referred to as research programmes and organizations) in preparation for the research dialogue during SBSTA 38.

Others include the creation of research programmes and establishment of permanent links between governmental expert teams and national and international universities and research centres (SLV), as well as participation in regional and international research programmes (ARG, ARM, KOR, MEX, URY).

The SBSTA invited relevant regional and international research programmes and organizations active in climate change research to provide, in the context of the research dialogue, submissions with information on developments in their research activities relevant to the Convention, including with respect to the long-term global goal referred to in decision 1/CP.16, paragraph 4, as appropriate.

The SBSTA also noted the need for enhancing two-way communication and cooperation between the Parties and regional and international research programmes to meet the research needs of the Convention.
45- ولاحظت الهيئة الفرعية أيضاً ضرورة تعزيز الاتصال في اتجاهين والتعاون بين الأطراف وبرامج البحوث الإقليمية والدولية بغية تلبية الحاجات البحثية للاتفاقية.

Urges Parties, in particular developing country Parties, and invites regional and international research programmes and organizations active in climate change research to utilize the research dialogue as a forum for:
3- يحث الأطراف، ولا سيما الأطراف من البلدان النامية، ويدعو برامج ومنظمات البحوث الإقليمية والدولية الناشطة في مجال بحوث تغير المناخ إلى اغتنام الحوار المتعلق بالبحوث باعتباره محفلاً لما يلي:

Expresses its appreciation to the regional and international research programmes and organizations active in climate change research, as well as to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, for their participation in the research dialogue and for their continued provision of information on developments in research activities relevant to the needs of the Convention;
1- يعرب عن تقديره لبرامج ومنظمات البحوث الإقليمية والدولية الناشطة في مجال بحوث تغير المناخ، وكذا للهيئة الحكومية الدولية المعنية بتغير المناخ، لإسهام كل منها في الحوار المتعلق بالبحوث واستمرارها في تقديم المعلومات المتعلقة بمستجدات أنشطة البحوث ذات الصلة باحتياجات الاتفاقية؛

(b) Conveying research findings and lessons learned from activities undertaken by regional and international research programmes and organizations of relevance to the Convention.

56. The SBSTA took note of the information submitted by Parties and by the regional and international research programmes and organizations active in climate change research (hereinafter referred to as the research programmes and organizations) for the research dialogue held at this session of the SBSTA.
