In this year’s general debate, 45 countries, by my count, spoke about small arms. Many of them welcomed the report of the Panel of Governmental Experts on Small Arms.

The report of the Panel of Governmental Experts on Small Arms (A/52/298) is a valuable contribution to the efforts of the international community to achieve a better understanding of the question of small arms and light weapons in all its aspects.

The report of the Panel of Governmental Experts rightly expresses the view that foreign interference in internal conflicts by States which pursue strategic or regional interests is a factor which further complicates the control of small arms and light weapons.

South Africa welcomes the report of the Panel of Governmental Experts on Small Arms, which lays the foundation for future action by the international community to prevent and reduce the proliferation and use of small arms and light weapons.
وترحب جنوب أفريقيا بتقرير فريق الخبراء الحكوميين المعني باﻷسلحة الصغيرة الذي يرسي اﻷساس لاضطلاع المجتمع الدولي بعمل في المستقبل من أجل منع وخفض انتشار واستخدام اﻷسلحة الصغيرة واﻷسلحة الخفيفة.

It is in this context that Nepal welcomes the report of the Panel of Governmental Experts on Small Arms, one of whose sessions was held in Kathmandu this year, which has laid the foundation for future United Nations action in this area.
