The Conference of African Ministers responsible for Economic and Social Development and Planning shall have the following functions:

39. The Conference of Ministers responsible for Economic and Social Development and planning also adopted the resolutions and decisions summarized below.

14.5 This programme structure is based on and reflects the priorities in the new Strategic Directions for ECA, adopted by the Conference of Ministers responsible for Economic and Social Development and Planning in 1996.

3. At the thirty-first session of the Commission/twenty-second meeting of the Conference of Ministers responsible for Economic and Social Development and planning, held in Addis Ababa from 6 to 8 May 1996, the Conference of Ministers adopted the following draft resolution for action by the Council:
٣ - في الدورة الحادية والثلاثين للجنة والاجتماع الثاني والعشرين لمؤتمر الوزراء اﻷفريقيين المسؤولين عن التنمية الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والتخطيط، المعقودين في أديس أبابا في الفترة من ٦ إلى ٨ أيار/مايو ١٩٩٦، وافق المؤتمر الوزاري على مشروع القرار التالي لكي يبت المجلس فيه:

It also requested the Executive Secretary of the Commission to make recommendations to the regular session of the Conference of Ministers responsible for Economic and Social Development and Planning in 1998 for a final decision on the status of the Conference of African Ministers responsible for sustainable development and environment vis-à-vis the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment.

It was in this context that, during its reform process, ECA recognized these realities and, at its initiative, the Conference of African ministers responsible for Economic and Social Development and planning adopted the African Information Society Initiative (AISI).

The new directions document was endorsed at the thirty-first session of the Commission and the 22nd meeting of the Conference of African Ministers responsible for Economic and Social Development (April/May 1996).
