Under the terms of Assembly resolution 50/83 of 15 December 1995, the authorized retained surplus was reduced proportionately by a total of $15.3 million to offset in part the waiver of South Africa's unpaid contributions to various peacekeeping operations for the period from 30 September 1974 to 23 June 1994.

Subsequently, under the terms of General Assembly resolution 58/307 of 18 June 2004, the authorized retained surplus was further reduced by $63,312,709 representing the net accumulated surplus in the account of the Force from 1978 to 1993, leaving a balance of $19,565,240 as at 30 June 2004.

14. As at 31 December 2007, the General Fund's reserves and fund balances amounted to $209.4 million and comprised an authorized retained surplus of $68.3 million and a cumulative surplus of $141.1 million.
