Decides to include, inter alia, the following items on the agenda of the second special session of the Committee on Science and Technology:

Also decides that the second special session of the Committee on Science and Technology shall be held in Bonn, Germany, in 2010 in the event that no Party makes an offer to host that session and meet the additional financial cost;

The present document is a summary compilation of ideas, suggestions and proposals offered by various delegations during the second special session of the Committee on Science and Technology (CST S-2) and tabled at the ninth session of the CRIC (CRIC 9) for any recommendations Parties would like to make.

1. The second special session of the Committee on Science and Technology (CST S-2) was held under the chairmanship of Klaus Kellner (South Africa) in Bonn, Germany.

The organization attended the second special session of the Committee on Science and Technology and the ninth session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention, organized by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification in Those Countries Experiencing Serious Drought and/or Desertification, Particularly in Africa, held in Bonn, Germany, in February 2011.

3. In chapter II below, this document reports on progress made in the preparation of the UNCCD 2nd Scientific Conference since the second special session of the Committee on Science and Technology (CST S-2) as of mid-June 2011.

By decision 25/COP.9, paragraph 1, the Conference of the Parties (COP) decided that the second special session of the Committee on Science and Technology (CST S-2) shall be held in 2010 to address issues associated with the development and implementation of impact indicators related to the measurement of strategic objectives 1, 2 and 3 of The Strategy and to ensure the review of the outcomes of the UNCCD 1st Scientific Conference.

Comprehensive Press Kits were developed for COP 9 and the ninth session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation and the second special session of the Committee on Science and Technology.

On all agenda items, the second special session of the Committee on Science and Technology and the ninth session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention adopted reports summarizing the ideas, suggestions and proposals of delegates, leaving the tenth session of the Conference of the Parties with a variety of options to pursue and on which to take decisions.
