السيد شلقم (الجماهيرية العربية الليبية): سيدي الرئيس، يسعدني أن أهنئكم على انتخابكم رئيسا لهذه الدورة، وإننا نعتبر هذا الاختيار تقديرا لقارتنا الأفريقية.

Mr. Shalghem (Libyan Arab Jamahiriya) (spoke in Arabic): At the outset, I would like to express the condolences of the Libyan people and their leader, Colonel Muammar Al-Qadhafi, to the people and Government of the United States of America for the tragedy spawned by Hurricane Katrina.
السيد شلقم (الجماهيرية العربية الليبية): في البداية أعبر عن تعازي الشعب الليبي والأخ قائد الثورة العقيد معمر القذافي للشعب الأمريكي والحكومة الأمريكية بمناسبة مصابهم الناتج عن إعصار كاترينا الذي أودى بحياة العديد من المواطنين الأمريكيين.

السيد شلقم (الجماهيرية العربية الليبية): سيدي الرئيس، سبق لوفد بلادي أن عبر عن تهانئه للرئيسة بمناسبة توليها لهذا المنصب الرفيع، ولا يفوتني أن أؤكد ثقة وفد بلادي بقدرتها على النهوض بهذه المسؤولية وقيادة مداولاتنا إلى أفضل النتائج.

Mr. Shalghem (Libyan Arab Jamahiriya) (spoke in Arabic): I am pleased to express my deep appreciation to you, Sir, for presiding over this very important meeting. I would also like to express our thanks to Secretary-General Kofi Annan for his keen interest in African causes and his continuous efforts for the establishment and consolidation of peace in the continent and for African development in all fields.
