At the start of the second part of the 2005 session of the Conference on Disarmament, I would like to extend a cordial welcome to new colleagues who have assumed their responsibilities as representatives of their Governments to the Conference, namely, Ambassador Alberto Dumont from Argentina and Ambassador Nyunt Maung Shein from Myanmar.

50. Mr. Shein (Myanmar) said that, when a case could not be decided according to the rules of procedure, justice, equity and good conscience should prevail; in other words, the Chairman should be asked to rule on the matter.

26. Mr. Shein (Myanmar) said that the inability of the Scientific Committee to produce its report on time and the postponement of its fifty-seventh session confirmed that reliance by the Committee on a single professional post was insufficient and adversely affected its strategic plan and programme of work.
