122. In its decision 1997/104, the Commission reaffirming its resolution 1996/16, requested the Secretary-General to submit to it, at its fifty-fourth session, an updated version of the report on the status of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and on the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and its Optional Protocols, including all reservations and declarations.

17. Mr. Flinterman said that, while the present Committee had been informed that the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women was part and parcel of binding domestic law and could therefore be invoked directly by the courts, the Human Rights Committee had expressed concern regarding the status of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights in that regard.
