13. The Committee notes the National Strategic Plan 2002-2006 of the Ministry of the Promotion of Women, the Child and the Family with a sub-plan for the promotion of the Child and the Family.

It also notes with appreciation the approval in 2002 of a National Conception on the Protection of the Child and the Family with a view to harmonizing existing legislative framework.

It suggests that when police respond to incidents of domestic violence, they should first determine whether there are any children in the household and, if so, should notify the social services department to consider carrying out an assessment of the Child and the Family.

The Declaration and the Report will be based on the views and recommendations of several Greek NGOs and institutes, working in various fields of action relevant to children and families, that were invited by the " Foundation for the Child and the Family " to participate in this project and to co-operate in a joint effort expressing the views of the Greek civil society.

On June 7th 2005, the " Foundation for the Child and the Family " is organizing an event entitled " The UN Millennium Development Goals and the Civil Society " for the presentation of the Declaration and the Report as well as a presentation of the work of the ECOSOC and the United Nations concerning the Millennium Development Goals.

The Special Rapporteur would like to express her appreciation of the European Family Forum, held in May 1998 in Athens under the auspices of the Foundation for the Child and the Family, entitled " Family- Europe 21st Century Vision and Institutions " . She realizes that paying attention to the family in dealing with children who are threatened or ensnared in trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation is long overdue.

480. While appreciating the work done by the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) in the area of children's rights, the Committee regrets that its previous recommendation (see CRC/C/15/Add.112, para. 11) regarding the mandate and independence of the National Human Rights Commission, as well as the allocation of resources for 32 state procurators for the defence of the rights of the Child and the Family, has not been fully implemented.
