In accordance with rule 68 of the Committee's rules of procedure, the Secretary-General has informed the States parties concerned of the tentative dates on which their respective reports are scheduled for consideration by the Committee at its fifty-sixth session.

9. On 30 September and 7 October 2013, the Committee held informal public meetings with representatives of non-governmental organizations who provided information on the implementation of the Convention in the States parties considered by the Committee at its fifty-sixth session.

The Chair then invited the co-chairs of the four expert groups to introduce the work of the expert groups and their respective working reports, which had been made available in conference room papers, in accordance with the agreement of the Committee at its fifty-sixth session (A/68/20, para. 165).

The Committee noted that the Action Team on Near-Earth Objects had been tasked with finalizing the draft recommendations for an international response to the near-Earth object impact threat by the fiftieth session of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee, to be held in 2013, and to present them to the Committee at its fifty-sixth session.

To help recover lost time in preparing documents for the rescheduled fifty-seventh session in 2010, the officers of the Committee have requested the secretariat to take action in line with the longer-term strategic plan and programme of work agreed by the Committee at its fifty-sixth session (see A/63/46, sect. III) and endorsed by the General Assembly at its sixty-third session.
