IAC participated at the ECA meeting of the Committee on Women and Development held in Johannesburg, on October 9th - 11th.

In preparation for the review of the Beijing Platform for Action, ECA developed an evaluation process, which it presented to its subsidiary body, the Committee on Women and Development, in August 2008.

The role of the Committee on Women and Development as an advisory forum of experts and policy makers, would be to provide guidance to the Commission in its work, under subprogramme 6, on the importance of gender and women in development.
23 - إن دور اللجنة المعنية بالمرأة والتنمية ، بوصفها منتدى استشارياً يضم خبراء وصناع سياسات، سيتمثل في تزويد اللجنة الاقتصادية لأفريقيا ، في ما تضطلع به من أعمال في إطار البرنامج الفرعي 6 ، بتوجيهات بشأن مدى أهمية المساواة بين الجنسين ودور المرأة في التنمية .

14.25 During the meeting of the Committee on Women and Development, held on 16 and 17 November 2009, the subprogramme on gender and women in development was commended for its support to the national machineries of gender in Africa, and the Committee encouraged ECA to ensure continuity and up-scaling of previous interventions.
14-25 وخلال اجتماع اللجنة المعنية بالمرأة والتنمية المعقود في 16 و 17 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 2009، أُثنيَ على البرنامج الفرعي المعني بالجنسانية ودور المرأة في التنمية لما قدمه من دعم للآليات الوطنية المتعلقة بالشؤون الجنسانية في أفريقيا، كما شجعت هذه اللجنة اللجنةَ الاقتصادية لأفريقيا على كفالة مواصلة وتوسيع نطاق إجراءاتها السابقة.
