In the context of her mandate, she has received numerous allegations of journalists who are facing legal proceedings for defamation, propagation of false or malicious information likely to disturb public order, as well as contempt of court, for publicly denouncing human rights violations.

In the context of her mandate to identify existing and emerging obstacles to the enjoyment of the right to freedom of religion or belief, the Special Rapporteur contributed to a joint statement with seven other special procedures mandate-holders at the OHCHR seminar on the prevention of genocide, held in Geneva on 21 January 2009.

25. The Special Rapporteur has been invited by the Government of the Russian Federation to visit that country in the context of her mandate.

With regard to armed opposition groups, the Special Representative considers that, despite the numerous political and legal complexities implied, more direct contact and engagement with these groups in the context of her mandate could be useful in addressing the violations committed by these perpetrators.
