The Secretary-General has the honour to submit to the General Assembly, pursuant to the request in its resolution 52/199 of 18 December 1997, the attached note by the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Taking note of the statement of the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change on the results of the meeting of the Conference of the Parties prepared in response to the invitation of the General Assembly as contained in paragraph 6 of resolution 51/184,
وإذ تحيط علما ببيان اﻷمين التنفيذي لاتفاقية اﻷمم المتحدة اﻹطارية بشأن تغير المناخ عن نتائج اجتماع مؤتمر اﻷطراف، الذي أعده استجابة لدعوة الجمعية العامة الواردة في الفقرة ٦ من القرار ٥١/١٨٤،

6. Invites the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to report to the General Assembly at its fifty-third session and following the outcome of the third session of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention;
٦ - تدعو اﻷمين التنفيذي لاتفاقية اﻷمم المتحدة اﻹطارية بشأن تغير المناخ إلى أن يقدم تقريرا إلى الجمعية العامة في دورتها الثالثة والخمسين وبعد ظهور نتائج الدورة الثالثة لمؤتمر اﻷطراف في الاتفاقية؛

13. In Geneva, Mr. Vorontsov met with the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Compensation Commission.

The members of the Multilateral Consultative Committee whose terms are to expire at the end of the above-mentioned initial periods of one, two and three years should be chosen by lot to be drawn by the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change immediately after the Parties have been designated;

At the 3rd plenary meeting, on 6 November, statements were made under this item by the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, and by representatives of the Asian Development Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank.

He also met the ICRC Delegate General for Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, Angelo Gnaedinger, and the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Compensation Commission, Rolf Knutsson.

13. During his visit to Geneva, the Coordinator had a meeting with the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Compensation Commission regarding the status of the claims submitted in respect of the 605 former detainees determined to be dead.
