In 1998 the high-level meeting between the Secretary-General and the heads of regional organizations was devoted to the issue of conflict prevention.

٧ - ومتابعة للاجتماع الثالث لرؤساء المنظمات اﻹقليمية المكرس لمسألة تفادي المنازعات، عُقد في نيويورك، في كانون اﻷول/ ديسمبر ١٩٩٨، اجتماع على المستوى التنفيذي مشترك بين المنظمات اﻹقليمية واﻷمم المتحدة حول موضوع التعاون من أجل تفادي المنازعات، حضره ممثل لمنظمة اﻷمن والتعاون في أوروبا.
