31. The representative of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO informed the meeting about the status of the Indian Ocean tsunami warning system.
31 - وأبلغ ممثل اللجنة الأوقيانوغرافية الحكومية الدولية التابعة لليونسكو الاجتماع عن حالة نظام الإنذار المتعلق بمد تسونامي في المحيط الهندي.

ASEAN, for its part, had improved its response to disasters and was creating early warning systems to complement and contribute to the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System being developed by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.

In view of the delay in establishing a regular global marine assessment, IUCN urges that the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, in collaboration with relevant organizations and in consultation with States, be encouraged to prepare such an assessment as soon as possible.

58. According to the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), there is a need for increased and sustained funding to support adaptation for coastal and island communities.
