The draft therefore requested the Secretary-General to take all necessary measures for the establishment of the International Research Centre on El Niño at Guayaquil, Ecuador, and called on the international community to provide financial, technical and scientific assistance and cooperation for that purpose.

the International Research Centre on El Niño, in Guayaquil, Ecuador, has been leading efforts to provide decision makers with the information they need to prepare and plan for a response.

1. the International Research Centre on El Niño, in Guayaquil, Ecuador, continues to be a reference centre on climate services and climate-related disaster risk reduction in the Andean region -- the western coast of South America -- and globally.

Welcomes the activities undertaken so far to strengthen the International Research Centre on El Niño, through collaboration with international monitoring centres, including the national oceanographic institutions, and encourages further efforts to enhance regional and international recognition of and support for the Centre and to develop tools for decision makers and government authorities for reducing the impact of the El Niño phenomenon;

6 - تنوه بالدعم التقني والعلمي الذي تقدمه المنظمة العالمية للأرصاد الجوية لإصدار تنبؤات شهرية وموسمية منسقة على الصعيد الإقليمي، وبخاصة وضعها آلية لإعداد بيانات بآخر المستجدات المتعلقة بأحوال ظاهرة النينيو/النينيا، تعمل على أساس توافق الآراء وتتلقى مساهمات من مختلف المراكز المعنية بشؤون المناخ، بما فيها المركز الدولي للبحوث المتعلقة بالنينيو؛

He underscored the importance attached by his Government to the International Research Centre on the El Niño Phenomenon in that regard and expressed the hope that, with the assistance of the international community, his country and the rest of the region would no longer be hit by disasters causing incalculable human and material losses.
وحكومة إكوادور تعلق أهمية كبيرة على المركز الدولي للبحوث بشأن ظاهرة النينو في هذا السياق، ومن المأمول فيه ألا تتعرض إكوادور وبقية المنطقة بعد اليوم لكوارث تفضي إلى خسائر لا يمكن تقديرها، على صعيد الحياة البشرية والصعيد المادي أيضا، وذلك في إطار مساعدة المجتمع الدولي.

15. Ecuador supported the work of the International Research Centre on the El Niño Phenomenon, which had been established there in 2003 with the support of the World Meteorological Organization and the inter-agency secretariat of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction.
15 - وإكوادور تساند أعمال المركز الدولي للبحوث بشأن ظاهرة النينو، الذي أنشئ في هذا البلد بعام 2003 بدعم من المنظمة العالمية للأرصاد الجوية والأمانة المشتركة بين الوكالات المعنية بالاستراتيجية الدولية للحد من الكوارث الطبيعية.

UNESCO is also associated with the programme aimed at establishing the International Research Centre on Traditional Knowledge, in Matera, Italy.
