Mr. Mićić (Serbia), referring to the report of the Governing Council of UNEP (A/65/25 (Supp)), said that it was important that the Nusa Dua Declaration had stressed the nexus between environmental change and development, as well as the need to consider the reform of international environmental governance within a sustainable development context.

Subsequently, at the eleventh special session, ministers and heads of delegation committed themselves, through the Nusa Dua Declaration, to finalizing deliberations on improving the sciencepolicy interface for biodiversity and ecosystem services in 2010 and in so doing negotiating and reaching agreement on whether to establish an intergovernmental science-policy platform.

In accordance with General Assembly resolution 64/236 of 3 December 2009, and as subsequently reconfirmed by the Nusa Dua Declaration adopted in Governing Council decision SS.XI/9 of 26 February 2010, UNEP is encouraged to participate actively and effectively in the preparatory process for the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (also known as " Rio +20 " ) to be held in Brazil in 2012.
