(a) All States and other parties to armed conflict to respect fully international humanitarian law and, in this regard, calls upon States parties to respect fully the provisions of the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949, and the Additional Protocols thereto of 8 June 1977;

Despite its efforts, the past few days had seen new violations of the provisions of the Geneva Conventions and the additional Protocols by the Israeli occupying authority, which turned a deaf ear to all the appeals of the community of nations that international law should be respected.

At the first meeting of that Commission, all members signed a memorandum committing themselves to the full implementation of the provisions of the Geneva Conventions of 1949, to the terms of the above-mentioned Security Council resolutions, and to the presentation of a complete list of the names of the missing persons and other detainees, preparatory to securing their prompt release.

The United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Robert Serry, issued a statement deploring those actions and stating that they were contrary to the provisions of the Geneva Conventions and to the calls of the international community, including the Quartet's.

41. The United Arab Emirates attached great importance to States' respect for the provisions of the Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols and expressed its deep concern at the continued violations by Israel of its obligations under those instruments, both in the Palestinian and Arab territories that Israel had occupied since 1967 and in its recent war in the region.
41 - والإمارات العربية المتحدة تعلّق أهمية كبيرة على احترام الدول لأحكام اتفاقيات جنيف وبروتوكولاتها الإضافية، وهي تعرب عن بالغ قلقها إزاء انتهاكات إسرائيل المستمرة لالتزاماتها في إطار تلك الصكوك، سواء في الأراضي العربية والفلسطينية التي احتلتها إسرائيل منذ عام 1967 أم في حربها الأخيرة في المنطقة.

Faced with this situation, I sent letters to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana and Minister of External Relations of the Republic of Cameroon on 7 February 2008, pointing out that Israel, as occupying power, must assume full responsibility in accordance with the provisions of the Geneva Conventions, the relevant provisions of international law and international humanitarian law and the principles of human rights.
