A major focus of the commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary of the Commission on the Status of Women in 1997 was its historic role in initiating decisions that promoted the advancement of women towards the goal of equality in all areas, particularly in decision-making in the secretariats of the United Nations and in Member States.

55. In order to better focus the policy dialogue, the possibility of having joint reports, prepared by the secretariats of the United Nations, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the Bretton Woods institutions and the World Trade Organization, should be explored.
