33. Ms. Zubcevic (Croatia), referring to the report of the Secretary-General on the integration of transition economies into the world economy, said that the figures contained in it were optimistic, sometimes overoptimistic, given that some of those countries had started from a very low level.

With regard to the report of the Secretary-General on the integration of United Nations information centres with field offices of UNDP (A/AC.198/2002/4), a representative of the Department said that it was continuing to implement the views of Member States hosting information centres integrated with the field offices of UNDP in order to strengthen further the efficiency of public information activities.

Mr. GOUMENNY (Ukraine) said that, while his delegation agreed with most of the views expressed in the report of the Secretary-General on the integration of the economies in transition into the world economy (A/48/317), the latter should have contained more substantive recommendations on the broadening of United Nations activities to support transition economies.
