By this draft resolution, the General Assembly, recalling the request of the parties to the Agreement on a Firm and Lasting Peace, would extend the mandate of MINUGUA to 31 December 1998 and would request the Secretary-General to study its further extension, making it possible to programme with greater certainty the funding necessary for the functioning of MINUGUA under the regular budget of the Organization.
