166. Following the resignation of Ms. Chavez as Special Rapporteur, the Sub-Commission, in its decision 1997/114, decided to entrust Ms. Gay J. McDougall with the task of completing the study for submission to the Sub-Commission at its fiftieth session.

VI. CHAIRMAN'S EVALUATION OF THE WORK OF the Sub-Commission at its fiftieth session

In its decision 1997/110, the Sub-Commission took note of the Special Rapporteur’s explanation and urged him to submit his final report so as to allow it to be discussed at the sixteenth session of the Working Group and for consideration by the Sub-Commission at its fiftieth session.
وقد أحاطت اللجنة الفرعية علماً، في مقررها 1997/110، بالتوضيح الذي قدمه المقرر الخاص وحثته على تقديم تقريره النهائي بحيث تتسنى مناقشته في الدورة السادسة عشرة للفريق العامل ولكي تنظر فيه اللجنة الفرعية في دورتها الخمسين.

In its resolution 1997/22, the Sub-Commission requested the Secretary-General to invite all States to inform the Working Group on Contemporary Forms of Slavery of measures adopted to implement the Programme of Action and to report to the Sub-Commission at its fiftieth session and to the Commission at its fifty-fifth session.

In its resolution 1997/12, the Sub-Commission requested the Special Rapporteur to prepare a final working paper on the basis of comments and information received from Governments, indigenous peoples and others and submit it to the Working Group at its sixteenth session and to the Sub-Commission at its fiftieth session.

The Special Rapporteur recommends to the Sub-Commission to request the High Commissioner/Centre for Human Rights to provide the Sub-Commission at its fiftieth session with a reference document which would list all studies prepared in recent years for the Sub-Commission on economic, social and cultural rights.

At its forty-ninth session, in its resolution 1997/11, the Sub-Commission decided to entrust Mr. Guissé with the task of preparing a background document on the question of the relationship between the enjoyment of human rights and the working methods and activities of transnational corporations, for submission to the Sub-Commission at its fiftieth session.
35- قررت اللجنة الفرعية في قرارها 1997/11 المعتمد في دورتها التاسعة والأربعين أن تعهد إلى السيد غيسة بمهمة إعداد ورقة معلومات أساسية عن مسألة العلاقة بين التمتع بالحقوق الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والثقافية وبين أساليب عمل وأنشطة الشركات عبر الوطنية كي يقدمها إلى اللجنة الفرعية في دورتها الخمسين.

At its forty-ninth session, in its resolution 1997/11, the Sub-Commission decided to entrust Mr. Guissé with the task of preparing a background document on the question of the relationship between the enjoyment of human rights and the working methods and activities of transnational corporations, for submission to the Sub-Commission at its fiftieth session.

34. As a result of the work of the Sub-Commission at its fiftieth session, it is possible to state that it is the only United Nations body where independent experts, United Nations agencies and representatives of Governments and of non—governmental organizations meet and conduct a constructive exchange of views on the promotion and protection of human rights; thus, the Sub-Commission is a human rights laboratory.
٤٣- إن نتائج أعمال الدورة الخمسين للجنة الفرعية تجيز التأكيد بأن هذه اللجنة هي الهيئة الوحيدة بمنظمة اﻷمم المتحدة التي يجتمع فيها خبراء مستقلون ومنظمات تابعة لﻷمم المتحدة وممثلون للحكومات والمنظمات غير الحكومية لتبادل وجهات نظر بناءة فيما يتعلق بتعزيز حقوق اﻹنسان وحمايتها؛ وهي بالتالي مختبر لحقوق اﻹنسان.
