8. The matters dealt with in the report of JIU on common and joint services of the United Nations system organizations at Vienna (A/58/258) are of continuing concern to the Committee.

The JIU report on " Common and joint services of the United Nations system organizations at Vienna " (JIU/REP/2002/12) warranted serious consideration by Member States and the UNIDO Secretariat given that the strengthening of common services was one of the eight strategies proposed for the enhancement of support capacities by the United Nations Secretary-General.

3. With reference to the common and joint services of the United Nations system organizations at Vienna, the European Union commended the JIU for its thorough examination contained in document A/58/258 and supported the recommendations for fostering the integration of services for the four organizations concerned through the establishment of a single unit.
