One delegation requested the deletion of an act of its national legislation as this act was not pertinent to activities in the Area.

Recalling article 145 of the Convention, which requires that necessary measures shall be taken in accordance with the Convention with respect to activities in the Area to ensure effective protection for the marine environment from harmful effects which may arise from such activities,

45. The request was entered in the list of cases before the Tribunal as Case No. 17: " Responsibilities and obligations of States sponsoring persons and entities with respect to activities in the Area " .
45 - وأُدرجَ هذا الطلب في قائمة القضايا المعروضة على المحكمة بوصفه القضية رقم 17 تحت اسم " مسؤوليات والتزاماتموجبات الدول الراعية المزكية للأشخاص والكيانات في ما يتعلق بالأنشطة في المنطقة " .

5. In considering the proposed plan of work for exploration for polymetallic sulphides, the Commission took into account the principles, policies and objectives relating to activities in the Area as provided for in Part XI of and annex III to the Convention and in the Agreement relating to the implementation of Part XI of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of 10 December 1982.
٥ - وعند النظر في خطة العمل المقترحة لاستكشاف الكبريتيدات المتعددة الفلزات، راعت اللجنةُ المبادئ والسياساتِ والأهداف المتعلقة بالأنشطة المنفذة في المنطقة كما نص عليها الجزءُ الحادي عشر من الاتفاقية ومرفقُها الثالث والاتفاقُ المتعلق بتنفيذ الجزء الحادي عشر من اتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لقانون البحار المؤرخة 10 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 1982.

Any such issue involving a question of interpretation of Part XI or with respect to activities in the Area shall be referred to the Seabed Disputes Chamber for a ruling and the arbitral tribunal shall render its award in conformity with the ruling of the Seabed Disputes Chamber.

38. Among the substantive functions of the Authority are the promotion and encouragement of marine scientific research with respect to activities in the Area and the collection and dissemination of the results of such research.
